If you’re like us, your life has chapters.
The transition between them can be clunky— riddled with resistance, anxiety, fear. James Clear writes a newsletter to help us turn the page. It’s marketed as “the most wisdom per word of any newsletter on the web” and I can attest it’s true.
I’d summarize his message as follows:
By controlling what we can and committing to process— building healthy habits and systems around us— the little wins add up over time to compound into something great. He has two rules:
You get better at what you practice
Everything is practice
I fuck with this.
It’s simple and obvious with no frills. It ain’t easy though, quite the opposite.
But such is the path of the seeker. And such is the path of all enduring transformation, growth, learning, relationship, adventure, investment strategy, and… life better lived. There are no shortcuts, no secrets, no cheat codes.
The onus is on us and only us.
Demanding trust, commitment to process, and a love for adventuring to the edge.
Below is a blurb from James’ recent newsletter. Hope it gasses you up like it did to me.
“The common narrative is that kids learn faster than adults, but if you watch any toddler they spend a large portion of the day attempting things that are on the edge of their ability. The key is to enjoy hanging out on the edge. That is, you find it interesting to attempt things one step beyond where you are right now.
How much time have you spent on the edge of your ability today?”
