They say “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts'' and "alone we can do so little; together we can do so much" and that “if you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else" and "none of us ever do great things. But we can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful” and blah friggin-self-helpy-cringe-inspo blah.
But clichés are cliché for a reason: they’re true.
And even though my words above ooze with self-protecting sarcasm, I also mean them to the depth of my core. Teamwork makes the dreamwork. And Unplugged is feeling the truth of these cheesy clichés as we embark on a cruiseyy-collab with another Salt Lake-based organization whose surfing an excitingly similar wave. They’re called Norkova and they’re badass. Norkova is a community, rooted in mental health advocacy, whose purpose is to ease the mental health crisis by infusing people with well-being. With weekly yoga, cold plunges, craft nights, sound baths, mom’s groups and men’s nights– they’re on some good $h!t.
We met Kate, the founder, and she’s, well, a kindred spirit. She tells me that they focus on personal growth, via community, and that they hope to help people find joy in the everyday. I hardly know her but I see her, what she’s doing, what the Norkova community is doing, and I just can’t even.
“We have an extremely similar mission, and on some level we might be considered competitors. But I don’t see it that way. We’re on the same team. We’re here, in Salt Lake, to help make things better. Let’s help each other.” And those are her words, not mine. We’re all on Team Human.
Norkova’s got some crazy cool things in the works. If you have a minute, and you're in the area, poke around their website and check out some of the upcoming happenings. You won’t regret it.
